We've all heard/read the shtick about the enormous effort and work that goes into validating server class processors. Yes? Let's assume for the sake of discussion that, that's all "god's" honest truth. Who here is going to tell me that Intel's "On Demand" does anything other than make such validation substantially more burdensome, time consuming and expensive? Yes, above and beyond any possible reduction in SKUs? Ok, I'll listen.
I would point those considering responding to take a gander at Intel's TSX and SGX.
So, is Intel "On Demand" a sell for the company? I seriously doubt it, it may even call into question validation of any of the "soft" upgradeable processors. IBM did this sort of thing half a century ago already (when IBM was effectively a monopoly), but things were ever so much simpler then.
