Intel On Demand (crippleware) does not cater to any customer. This is a naked money grab. By your logic, customers who buy lots of servers are going to be thrilled if Intel starts charging them “only for what they use” by having metered usage fees for the floating point hardware. Instead of saving imaginary pennies with Intel On Demand, these customers will just buy AMD or ARM processors because Sapphire Rapids is about 1.5x to 1.8x more expensive than AMD’s Genoa processor per unit of compute (core x GHz).
