I have no interest in living on a commune and I understand why all software is not free.
With Intel On Demand (crippleware), customers are being asked to pay extra for features what are needed to make Sapphire Rapids close to competitive with the alternatives. The base prices of Sapphire Rapids are already 1.5x to 1.8x higher than AMD’s Genoa processor per unit of compute (core x GHz). Intel should be doing everything possible to encourage use of the on-die accelerators in Sapphire Rapids, not discourage their use. Intel needs customers to use the on-die accelerators to have a competitive product. That’s why Intel On Demand is a dumb idea.
