It would certainly damage Spec's credibility. It would send a clear signal that Intel likes that particular benchmark so much that they're willing to pay money so that third party reviewers can use them, and that they're paying Spec for doing a "good" job designing the benchmark.

While that obviously does not impact the real value of the benchmark, the perception would certainly be bad.
