The P4 has 4 (180/130nm) or 8 (90/65nm).
The K8 has 2 (Rev C/D) or 4 (Rev E).

Yes, that's what they target -- graphics.
Combine a bunch of byte/word/dword writes, to conserve bus bandwidth.
