I'm not sure how to interpret that quote:

1) You'll be able to buy a computer with productized versions of the technologies on Intel's prototype chip.

2) You'll be able to buy a computer capable of teraflops for some applications.

3) Both.

If it's 1), then I'd be interested to see where these technologies pop up. Nehalem? Gesher?

If it's 2), then "significantly less" makes sense. With high-end GPUs today, you can supposedly already achieve this for a very small set of applications (or will be able to within months). It will most likely become achievable for a broader set applications in significantly less than five years.

I suspect it might be 3), and he's referring to Intel's development of GPGPU technology based on some of the concepts in the prototype. He was speaking from an Intel viewpoint, so the quote is probably meant to be:

"I'm confident (you will be able to buy Intel-based teraflop computers) in five years or less, maybe significantly less."
