I'd simply point out that booting Solaris (or generally any vendor controlled, and hence flexible OS) is not a huge achievement. Booting something like Windows, which is already on the market and isn't going to be changed to accomodate 'peculiar' behavior is much tougher. Interestingly, this means that OS X should have an advantage over Windows and Linux, because Apple can rapidly build in support for new features...such as peculiar highly parallel devices with vector support. Just a thought there : )

Regarding Tukwila, I'm not clear on whether that means the official target has been lowered, or merely that the current silicon is only running at 2.1GHz. In the case of the latter, I wouldn't really worry.

If you look at the speed on AMD's Barcelona, it seems to fluctuate with the time of day, phase of the moon and what not. That's life on a chip that still has speedpaths, and to be expected. The same goes for Tukwila, which is even further away from release than Barcelona.
