You should read Bob Colwell's book, "The Pentium Chronicles". It doesn't deal much with the Pentium per se (he did the Pentium Pro and P4). However, he does talk about the fact that he found out the FPU in the Pentium was defective before there was a public discovery and out roar.

It appears that for a variety of reasons, mostly having to do with compensation, SEC rules, etc. If you find something which is material information, you are automatically subject to the same rules for disclosure, investing, etc. as the executives. And nobody really wants that to happen. In fact, you will probably piss folks off when you tell them about said bug because they are now subject to insider rules.

There were a few very interesting sections about the Pentium FDIV incident in his book, and it's definitely worth reading for the rest of the material as well.
