Sure. But wouldn't it be better for you to bash those companies that don't do the right thing?

I don't have any problem with current pace of hardware change. When I buy a new computer, I already know what I am going to do with it. So what if there is twice as fast coming to market next year? That does not make my current rig any worse.

The software is more problematic. My parents are happily using Windows 2000. Soon (or did it happen already?) there won't be any support available, that is, no security updates. They have to update then and Vista really isn't an option for that old hardware. However, the computer has been in use for something like six year and if Linux would be an option for my parents, hardware could still see more years of use.

By the way, I think six years is quite much for a PC. They usually break down sooner.

Well, I think it is a real world situation a lot more often than not. I don't think many home users update their computers. Enthusiast do, of course, but they are minority.
