So, you always write just hand tuned assambler? It would be great to have unlimited resources, but since no programming project has, people usually use higher level languages, compilers, libraries and so on. I don't see how using an optimizing VM differs from this.
Besides, if an average programmer can achieve x times speedup by optimizing his code and dynamically optimizing VM can achieve 100x speedup with N = 10, don't you think its worth it? It really is about the numbers. Your 100 % figure is just a dream.
