Ah, the joys of commercial software!
Long ago we had a customer call and complain that something was not working properly. The developer looked into it and replied "That is not what we developed it for, and not how we intended you to use it". To which the customer replied "Well, that is what I pay you maintenance fees for, and how I expect you to use it". Point became moot - the 'bug' was fixed. This wasn't a scaling problem, but 'feature creep'. (note, in our environment customers pay about 20% of the initial license fee for a yearly maintenance contract).
