I'd guess that in today's economic conditions they would reconsider. Apart from price advantage, DL180 memory is compatible with Opterons and likely compatible with incoming Nehalems => simplified spare parts management.

Aren't you confusing 5100MCH chipset with 3000/3100? Registered DDR2 and triple PCIe x8 don't look like desktop features to me.

But I wouldn't call the chipset that in single-socket configuration easily beats Sun M3000 and in dual-socket is competitive with many M4000 models a very low end. Just "low end", no need for "very".
