I'd guess that in today's economic conditions they would reconsider. Apart from price advantage, DL180 memory is compatible with Opterons and likely compatible with incoming Nehalems => simplified spare parts management.

Aren't you confusing 5100MCH chipset with 3000/3100? Registered DDR2 and triple PCIe x8 don't look like desktop features to me.

5100 is certainly more interesting for single socket than for dual and more interesting for towers and blades than for classic racks. But I wouldn't call the chipset that in single-socket configuration easily beats Sun M3000 and in dual-socket is competitive with many M4000 models a very low end. Just "low end", no need for "very".
