All this discussion and you dont even know what the carrier, the single most important part of a laptops structure, is? thats quite funny.
Just about all the good robust laptops are built as I said above. Cheap laptops generally use aluminium.
Aluminium (alloy..) components generally have to be made thicker and bulkier than (several..) other metal alloys to give the same base strength, however they are usually lighter (that some, for example steel) and cheaper than many (ie: magnesium and titanium) and easier to work, hence they get used in middle/lower end parts.
Perhaps you should go learn a few facts from someone other than apples marketing department?
