TOP3 smart moves

In my opinion, here are the top 3 microcomputer smart moves:

1) Maintaining backwards compatibility on the x86 ISA. (Which in turn was mostly compatible with 8080, which in turn was mostly compatible with 8008.) This preserved Intel's market share with only modest additional engineering effort. Note that even Intel couldn't successfully break this rule. They tried to with the 432, the 860, and Itanium.

2) AMD designing the AMD64 instruction set. A beautiful piece of work. Unfortunately AMD was not quite able to capitalize on their lead here -- Intel caught up quickly.

3) ARM designs the ARM instruction set and then successfully licenses the heck out of it. (I guess MIPS did this as well, but for some reason they have faded from the scene in recent years.)
